The Dark Heart of Italy: Travels Through Time and Space Across Italy ~Tobias Jones Medical and HealthWhere to Get InformationThe Local Health Unit (Azienda Sanitaria Locale - ASL). Doctors, Dentists & PrescriptionsHand your E111 to the ASL and get a certificate of entitlement. Ask for a list of the scheme's practitioners, then take the certificate to one of them, who will charge you a fee. For prescribed medicines you'll be charged a standard fee, which is non-refundable. If the pharmacy receipt carries the word ticket, you'll have to pay full price. If you don't have an ASL certificate, you'll have to pay for treatment and may have difficulty getting the money back afterwards, and then probably only a partial refund. If you're charged in full for medicines, keep the price tags - you won't get a refund without them. Hospital TreatmentIf a doctor considers you need hospitalisation, you'll be given a certificate (proposta diricovero) which generally entitles you to reduced cost treatment in certain hospitals. The ASL will also supply a list of the relevant hospitals. If you're unable to contact the ASL first, show the hospital authorities your E111 and ask them to contact the local office at once about your right to treatment under the state health care scheme. ©Crown copyright | Related Info ItalianTourism.com Official site |
