Doctors, Dentists & PrescriptionsYou can only get treatment from surgeries which have a sign saying they're contracted with the National Health Insurance Fund - in Hungarian: "OEP-pel szerzo dött szolgaltato" Doctors consultations are free of charge. ![]() Emergency dental treatment is generally free. Unless it's an emergency, private charges for seeing a doctor or dentist are non-refundable. Where a doctor or dentist issues a prescription, take it to the pharmacy - you don't need any no other documentation. You'll have to pay between 10%-90% of the cost of the medicine. It's not refundable. Hospital TreatmentIn-patient and out-patient hospital treatment is normally provided through a referral from a GP. There are a few cases where a referral isn't necessary. Treatment is free of charge, except where extra services are requested - a better accommodation or meals, say. Charges for extra services are non-refundable.
