More on annual and multi-trip insurance.

The maximum amount of days you can stay away on any one trip is 45. Business trips are covered, which is a plus.

Existing medical conditions

As with every insurer you need to declare any ill health - this is called 'pre-existing medical conditions'. Knowledge of your health allows Churchill to accurately calculate the medial risk associated with your holiday or travel. If you've had any kind of medical problem in the last five years or have had cancer, heart of respiratory condition, call them on 0800 032 7140. Not to declare a medical problem will invalidate your policy.

Insurance for couples

If you take out discounted Couples insurance then you and your beloved don't have to be jointed at the hip - you can travel separately.

Kids and children

Packing them off on a school trip? Churchill's Family travel policy still covers them - so long as there's proper supervision by adults.

Sports

Interestingly, Churchill's don't tell you which sports you can happily take part in and still be covered. Instead they list what you can't do. So you know exactly where you stand (or more likely, fall).

Scuba diving, for instance, is covered up to a max of 30 metres as long as you're accompanied by a qualified instructor.

Here's a few of those dangerous sports you definitely can't do -

  • Ballooning
  • Base Jumping
  • Bobsleighs, luges, toboggans or skeletons
  • Boxing
  • Hang-gliding
  • Heli-skiing
  • High diving
  • Mono-skiing
  • Mountaineering
  • Ocean sailing in international waters
  • Paragliding
  • Parasailing if unsupervised or over land
  • Rock climbing
  • Skiing off-piste unless accompanied by a guide
  • Skyding

Essentially, the higher the risk, the less likely the activity will be included in the basic policy and you will need a tailored policy for your holiday. Phone Churchill direct for a quote.

Business travel insurance

Nice to know it's automatically included - as long as the work you're doing isn't manual.

Read the small print re cover for personal possessions - you're unlikely to be covered for equipment such as computers, laptops, PDAs or mobile phones.

Weddings abroad

More and more people are getting married overseas. Barbados, Jamaica, Kenya, Sri Lanka, the Dominican Republic - anywhere hot and sunny with romantic palm trees gently waving in the background wedding photos are popular.

No surprise then that most insurers nowadays offer wedding cover for this type of break. Let's hope you won't need it.

If you do Churchill's weddings package could soften the blow a little if something horrendous should happen on the happiest day of your life.

For instance, say the photographer you've hired can't work because of illness or transport problems.

Churchill's policy promises to save the day by paying out reasonable costs for getting a replacement.

Other benefits include -

  • Up to £250 for loss, theft or damage to wedding rings
  • Up to £1000 for wedding gifts
  • Up to £1000 for wedding attire
  • Up to £750 for photos or video recordings

Golf Insurance Cover

You can include cover for golf equipment, including hire of equipment, and loss of green fees for an additional premium.

Golf policy cover

  • Up to £1000 for golf equipment
  • Up to £400 for hire of equipment
  • Up to £300 for green fees

The golf course can be a dangerous place at times. Especially when there's a novice hurtling around the green on a golf buggy, luxury or expensive cars in the car park or solicitors near the putting green.

Thoughtfully Churchill's have extended the personal liability cover for injury, loss or damage caused by you and your golf buggy!
