EHIC Exclusions: RepatriationEven when holidaying and visiting European countries there are good reasons to take out private travel medical insurance - the European Medical Card (EHIC) won't cover all your health and medical needs abroad. The EHIC Card provides good back-up cover in emergency situations but it certainly won't cover all of the things you would expect back home. And it certainly won't cover the cost of your transport home. In the worst-case scenario - you meet your Maker - it will not meet the expense of transferring your body back to where you're journey originally started. No caring person wants to burden his or her loved ones with that expense. Not to mention having them experience the trauma of having to make the final arrangements. So think carefully before you gleefully hop on that boat or plane. Someone, somewhere along the way is going to have to pick up the bill if it all goes pear shaped. |
