Basics: holiday travel insurance

Insurance is the pooling of risk

If we all invest hundreds, if not thousands of pounds, and then travel at great speed to unfamiliar countries and cultures, then we can predict that things may just go wrong through no fault of our own.

And accidents happen ...

Illness, diseases, accidents, fatalities, theft, loss, mugging, personal liability can leave us high and dry, up to our necks in trouble and grief.

With insurance you get to call on the pooled money/resources so you get out of the fix you are in as quickly as possible.

Your holiday progresses, you get medical and health treatment, you receive reimbursement for losses, you don't get sued, or your loved ones aren't required to sort out horrible situations, and huge bills to return home to.

Pool your risk

So find the cheapest 'pot' for your particular circumstances and chip in. Pool that risk for peace of mind and adequate resources if you need them.

Go to ehic.org.uk and make your online application for your free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) - this gets you the basics within the Eurozone

The better you identify your risk and the more quotes you get then the cheaper your cover will be. But ensure you will be properly covered (exclusions exist) so you will be indemnified (returned to the position you were in before the claim).

For example, if you travel often take out multi trip cover, if you ski then ensure you are covered for winter sports.
